An Early Pioneer in Temecula

Our vineyard here on De Portola Road in Temecula was one of the first vineyards in Temecula, originally planted in the 1960s and then becoming part of Keyways Winery when it opened in 1989. The Veness family's first visit to the Temecula area was in the 1990s and they realised a dream in 2006 when they purchased this 13 acre vineyard with its well established Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc and Merlot vines. Discovering that there was around an acre unplanted we chose to plant Barbera - this Italian varietal has grown well and proved extremely popular. Our family continue to operate the De Portola vineyard and have expanded with an entirely new vineyard on nearby Via Tranquilo.

Via Tranquilo Vineyard

Our Via Tranquilo vineyard was acquired in 2013 and planted in 2015 with solely white varietals. Given the generally hot climate of Temecula and domination of red varietals special care was taken in selecting white varietals that would be able to flourish - Vermentino, Viognier and Chardonnay.

David Veness

David Veness who sadly passed away in 2009 was the driving force behind the acquisition of our vineyard, pictured here observing the grape crush at harvest time in 2008.
